Belly Dance Class

In this 5-week course we will develop the foundational skills needed to dance the fun, elegant and beautiful dance of 'Raqs Sharqi' or Egyptian style bellydance. We will learn basic posture, movements and weight shifting. You will practice arm, hip and chest isolations alongside flowing movements, travelling steps and the all-important shimmy! We will also learn a short and high energy oriental choreography using veils.

Bellydance is suited to all genders, bodies and abilities. I can promise lots of laughter and a much deeper awareness and connection to your body, pelvis and emotions.

We will work with current hits alongside classical instrumental songs. And we will also unpack some of the myths around this dance.

Having managed my own dance journey through major health challenges, I can help guide you to adapt movements to best suit your body’s needs.

I adore this dance. It’s so much more than a dance, as a result of working with these movements, I’ve witnessed really profound changes in my private students, not just in their dance but in their lives.

I am a belly dancer who spent three years training in Cairo, Egypt, with some of the best Egyptian dance teachers including Dandash and Safy Akef, granddaughter of the great Naima Akef.
