DANCE THERAPY
Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) is an arts therapy that uses dance and movement as a tool for non-verbal communication to help clients express experiences that are hard to put into words. No previous dance experience is required. We start from your comfort level. DMP explores movement to help uncover unconscious thought processes, emotions, motivations and beliefs and helps you to express yourself through movement, play, drawing, and writing. This can help you to develop greater understanding and compassion for yourself and others.
What happens in a session? A DMP session follows a “talk-move-talk” format in which we ‘check-in’ with one another. Next, we warm up and begin to interact through movement games and exercises. Then, we reflect on our experiences.
Clients who participated in DMP sessions reported feeling, “Permission to have fun again” and “…relaxed and happy in myself.”
