Herbal Medicine is the traditional art of phytotherapy, meaning ‘plant-therapy’. The safe and effective use of plants as medicine are supported by modern scientific research, clinical trials, and traditional uses. The study of Herbal Medicine is rooted in the conventional medical sciences: physiology, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, and toxicology combined with historical texts, folklore, and ethno-archeological discoveries. Herbal Medicine offers a comprehensive approach to health and well-being.
Herbal Medicine has an essential role to play within society, supporting the primary healthcare practitioner address the health and welfare of the community. Working in combination with other complementary therapies; osteopathy, psychotherapy, and acupuncture, herbal medicine provides individuals with an empowering strategy, a way to navigate an individualized approach to health and wellness.
The complex nature of plants and plant constituents are ideally suited to interact positively with the complex biological processes of the human being.

Jemma Ward, MNIMH
Jemma trained in Western Herbal Medicine with Heartwood. Completing a Diploma in Herbal Medicine, equivalent to a BSc degree. Jemma works to the highest ethical standards as set out in the NIMH Code of Ethics and Practice. Jemma treats a wide range of patients of all ages, specializing in conditions concerning men’s health and skin conditions.
As a member of the Herbal History Research Network, Jemma is interested in traditional Saxon texts and contemporary scientific research. A qualified member of The National Institute of Medical Herbalists, Jemma regularly attends CPD modules in a range of herbal courses, attending conferences throughout the year(www.nimh.org.uk). As a member of The Royal Society of Medicine Jemma continues to develop her understanding of the root causes of disease and health management. Jemma Ward, Medical Herbalist is working within the scope of Western Herbal Medicine approved by The National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH). Focusing on the patient and the root cause of illness rather than on the symptoms presented.
The choice and application of herbs prescribed is based on detailed information given during the consultation and a result of any clinical examination conducted during the consultation. This allows for a bespoke personalized prescription to be created for each person. Follow up treatments are on a monthly or fortnightly basis until the treatment is resolved at the patient’s discretion.

Please note your Herbal Medicine prescription will be an additional cost to your consultation – between approximately £15.00 - £25 per week.
Online appointments are available. Please note our price scheme remains the same whether online or in person.
Appointments for children (under 18’s) are priced the same as adult appointments, and generally require the same amount of time and procedure. Parental supervision is encouraged and required.
A consultation may require clinical examination, these are non-invasive, and performed with patient consent. Jemma Ward, MNIMH has a valid DBS certificate and is fully insured to practice the art and science of Herbal Medicine.

Jia Cheng, BSc, MSc
With a family lineage deeply rooted in Chinese medicine and a solid foundation in science, Jia has cultivated a unique blend of scientific expertise and traditional healing knowledge.
Jia’s academic journey commenced with the pursuit of Biochemistry degree at Imperial College London, where she delved into the world of molecular science and Genetics. Jia’s professional path led her to the AstraZeneca cancer research department, where she gained a deeper understanding of the causes of illness from western medicine perspectives.
However, Jia’s passion for holistic healing drew her towards a different path. She embarked on a transformative journey under the guidance of a renowned Chinese medicine teacher and practitioner, Xin Li, in China. Here, she immersed herself in the intricate arts of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, absorbing centuries-old wisdom from a master in the field. During the three-year Diploma course in Chinese Medicine, Jia also studied with many other distinguished teachers and practitioners in their field including Yingyang Zhong (Tai Chi), Sylvia Martin (Acupuncture), Yarong Xu (Acupuncture), Kaihan Ma (Herb Medicine) and Regis Blin (Energy Osteopathy).
Upon graduation, Jia’s commitment to excellence earned her recognition from Dr. Li and the privilege of advanced studies under his mentorship. Subsequently, Jia became a valued teaching assistant for Dr. Li, sharing her passion for the ancient healing art and helping shape future practitioners.
Equipped with a diverse skill set encompassing acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, energy osteopathy, moxibustion, and more, Jia possess a nuanced understanding of the strengths inherent in various Chinese medicine treatment modalities. It enables her to tailor treatments to each individual, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
Jia’s gentle approach is well-suited for patients of all age, particular for people in delicate health states. Jia also specialises in an innovative technique known as "Non- needle Acupuncture" which offers non-invasive acupuncture for children and individuals averse to needles.
Beyond her formal studies, Jia has dedicated years to the practice of meditation and Tai Chi, further enriching her understanding of the mind-body connection and the holistic nature of well-being.
